Day 23
Action and contemplation live through one another, and neither of them can exist healthily by themselves. (Monday) Action is not the important word, nor is contemplation; and is the important word! How do you put the two together? (Tuesday) --Richard Rohr’s “Daily Meditation” Newsletter*
My husband’s Aunt Jackie told me about the author Richard Rohr, a Franciscan Priest, spiritual writer, and speaker. Aunt Jackie suggested that I sign up to get his “Daily Meditation” Newsletter. She sent me a summary of this weeks meditative thoughts, and the theme of this weeks newsletter is “Contemplation in Action”. Quite the paradox, huh? At least in my life, these two are. What they both have in common though is that they are both acts of doing something, but one is active and one is passive. Okay, I might be able to give myself a pat on the back for not drinking for almost a month now, but that is so easy in the summertime when I can sleep in, go to the pool with J, and fit in a little time to read or walk. What about when school starts, and I feel the pressure of my personal time shrinking, and the pressure on my body building, and the pain begins to mount? I have to carve out time to talk to God, and I have to make time to decompress.
