Never Give Up

I clicked on my Bible app today and read the verse of the day, and it says, "That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. (2 Corinthians 4:16)

I had forgotten about this verse, but we all know the expression, "never give up". There are times when I want to give up. When I want to quit my job, or when I have slammed the door of my room and closed myself off from my family. When I give on on my dreams of writing and push them aside until later. When I walk by the seemly endless shelves of wine bottles in the grocery store, and for a minute I think about giving up my sobriety. Apparently I did give up in my dreams. I remember drinking beer last night in slumberland. I never even drank beer back in the day. I was more of a wine and whiskey girl. But I remember enjoying a beer last night and feeling guilty about it. And I was worried that it was going to become a problem. I was worried that I had given up on my sobriety.

I haven't though. And when I am tempted by wine bottles in the grocery store, I keep walking. When I get home, I pour myself a tall glass of sparkling water. And it helps to write about it. And it helps to pray about it. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phillipians 4:13). And I pray daily for Jesus to fill my cup so that I do not give up on my sobriety.
