Firmly Planted

It rained for a week here, and by the end, many roads began to flood. I left Saturday morning in the rain, and by the time I was headed back home at noon, many of the roads were closed. Every time I would get close to my neighborhood, a road would be closed, and I would have to turn around and find another route only to run into another road closure. I ended up in a hotel parking lot. I called my husband, and he told me how I should get home. A trip that should have taken 30 minutes, took two hours, but I made it home safely.

It rained more that night, and the flooding got worse. There were many houses and businesses that were damaged and some destroyed by the flooding. One man died while trying to drive through a road closure. His car flooded, and he could not escape. By the time the emergency workers got him to the hospital, it was too late. I am praying for this man's family and for the people whose lives have been affected by the flooding.

When I looked at my verse of the day on my Bible app, it was from Jeremiah: "I will watch over and care for them, and I will bring them back here again. I will build them up and not tear them down. I will plant them and not uproot them." (Jeremiah 24:6). If we are believe that Jesus died for our sins then we are his children. We are firmly planted on a solid foundation, and when a flood comes, it may cause destruction, but it cannot wash us away. We have to trust in the Lord to take care of us. The Bible also says to "Bear one another's burdens" (Galations 6:2) and to "love thy neighbor as thyself"(Matthew 22:40). Whether you spend time each day lifting a person up in prayer, offer to help a neighbor out in need, or lend an ear when someone needs to talk, there are many ways that you can make a difference in another person's life if they are in the midst of tribulation. Let your friend know how God's love can keep us firmly planted.
